The running mate of the Republican party a Mr. Ali Sawad who nobody has heard of before is ready for his next job, the vice presidency of the country. The Republican party has given a fancy introduction of him. Lets see... gold medal winner, three undergraduate degrees, a master degree in human rights and an almost completed Phd. wow!. Is he trying out for a teaching assistant job in the University? This is the position of the second most powerful post in the country, and one which is exclusively a public service job.
Well enough of my sarcasm. I just believe that one needs to have experience in public service before one would be qualified to take up such huge responsibilities... responsibilities towards the public. All I have seen by most of these contenders are recklessness and greed. Suddenly everyone with money and influence has realising that all is up for grabs once again.
Maldives the country which is still best for business in South Asia is at the mercy of the powerful and the elite once again.

u r doing what they want. They want u to talk about him.
ReplyDeleteThis is why Gayoom will win this election! Gasim and his friends are too greedy.
ReplyDeletethey have chosen a young boy for the position of VP. they know they cannot control people like Dr Munavvar, Dr Ugail, Dr Waheed, Mr Nasheed. Good choice for them but a bad choice for the public. Who cares about the public anyway!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha. what can we say! This is the vision of Gasim. Mission possible? Ofcourse said Gasim!
ReplyDeleteThese comments are understandable since he is not a well known figure among the public. I happen to know him. He is a character of high integrity, sharp wit and a formidable arsenal of knowledge on a broad spectrum of issues. He is a traned lawyer (LLB and LLM), has had experience practicing in a real democracy, has had formal training in journalism and economics. Wait and see what he has to say to the public. My guess is that he won't dissapoint. Btw, with respect to referring to him has a young boy, he and Ugail finished high school the same year.
ReplyDeleteI guess Gasim has two campaigns to do now. 1. campaign for the presidency 2. campaign to let the general public know who his virtually unknown running mate is.
ReplyDeleteI think both "campaigns" can can happen together. Sawad is an articulate public speaker in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteQasim is an agent of Gayyoom.
ReplyDeleteDo you want proof?
* Dr. Munavvaru was not chosen as the running mate.
What has this got to do with Qasim being an agent of Gayyoom?
* Dr.Munavvaru told Qasim that he would accept the position only on certain conditions.
What are the conditions?
Once Joomhoori wins the election Dr. Munavvaru said he will decide the top posts in the government.
Ok. I am still not convinced why Qasim is an agent of Gayyom. Tell me more.
* Lolly Jabir, ADK Nashid, Monaza Naeem, Adhaalath Hussain Raheed etc won't be on Dr.Munavvaru's top position list. Due to this Qasim and his colleagues knew Dr. Munavvaru would chose a Government which will not favour Gayyoom and his cronies in case Joomhooree wins the election.
What is the risk for the people if Joomhooree wins the election?
Qasim and his colleagues want to take part as a backup for Gayyoom (DRP) and in case the DRP fails they still would run the show for Gayyoom.
I am still not convinced that Qasim is an agent of Gayyoom.
* Joomhooree party heads knew Dr.Munavvaru would not decieve the poeple of the Maldives.
A bit more... Secrets in between... Deals done in between. How on earth ADK Nashid got ADK hospital unfairly? Do you know that the original deal is done with Abdullah Shahid (Current Foreign Minister). Abdullah Shahid sub leased ADK for Nashid.
So citizens be aware and do not vote Joomhooree party.
Everyone, thanks for the comments. I just want to make one comment with reference to the last Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteThese are serious allegations that you make towards the Jumhooree party. Personally I would say that it would be an ideal situation for Gayoom however it does not make sense with Yamin's PA being also rumoured as a proxy party.
However making sense or being ideal is not the criteria required for something to be a fact.
At best you have quoted circumstantial evidence and rumours.
Anyway, if what you say is true, I hope it gets exposed before the elections.
Why this pair is not good.
ReplyDeleteQasim NO Phd. Sawadh Phd
Qasim Experience. Sawadh NO Experience
Qasim Old. Sawadh Young.
Qasim 4 wives. Sawadh ?
Qasim broken English. Sawadh Good english
Qasim experience in the government. Sawadh NO Experience in the government
Qasim a businessman. Sawadh not a businessman
.............. etc
Well it seems like the pair is good according to the last anonymous. They complement well with each other
ReplyDeleteYou complain that Sawad has no public service experience yet you don't want the one (Maumoon)who has served you so tirelessly for ?what?? a century?!to lead the country at the next elections either?? What hypocrisy!! Give the man who has entered the Maldivian politics with his integrity and humility in check a chance. Sawad brings with him what none of these men who had been in public service can vouch for - integrity, humility, intelligence, an analytical mind and the oratory skills that is oh! so refreshing!
ReplyDeleteSawadh may not be the best choice but better than Dr. Munavvar, who is already a failure.
ReplyDeleteA lil more personal info on Sawadh:
Sawadh is 35. His dad is from Addoo but mom from Male'.
Sawadh's wife is a dentist, who worked in IGMH. Her name is Saniyya Najee. A girl from Addoo.
sawad who? good luck gasim. you certainly need it now.
ReplyDeleteMaumoon has public service experience for his disadvantage, he blew every opportunity he had. On the other hand Sawadh has non. We do not know if he is bringing anything to the table. He just have to prove it first. And the position of the prime minister a little further ahead. He has to start as a community organizer.
ReplyDeleteThis is a disaster. Even Sawad's PhD supervisor will be shocked. Alternatively he may be thinking how silly our so called politions are!
ReplyDeleteHey anonymous (Yup! you, just above this comment) watch the news! try googling! better to know the person that a way than from the long list of corrupt deeds anyone can roll off their tongue in case of all the other candidates and running mates!
ReplyDeleteWhere is that long list Gasim had? Lets face it people the fact of the matter is there was very little choice and this is the best he could do. This is a last minute desperate decision. Poor Sawad.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the starting point for a person like Sawad. We have seen many brilliant Maldivians careers wasted like this. Sawad's future career has been hijacked by a bunch of desperate business lunatics.
ReplyDeleteAt least his teeth would be clean, now that his wife is a dentist. Or we hope.
ReplyDeleteEven that much cleanliness is hard to find in our politicians.
Talking about clealiness, did you guys see how nervous he was last night when questioned by a reporter about his possible business dealings. He was sweating and messing around with the microphone. Has he got somethings to hide?
ReplyDeleteHey I didn't see that, when was it? Does he have business dealings? I thought this was Mr. Clean
ReplyDeleteApparently he has not even completed his PhD yet. JP does not refer him as Dr but Ulustaz.
ReplyDeleteSawad has had a life long passion for the well being of the maldives and its people. I expect that this meant that he would contest for public service at some point in his life. When that time came, he would be a new face in maldivian politics. Now is just as good as a time to be that new face an other. And new, fresh, clean ... this is what we need right now.
ReplyDeleteNo sawad does not have business dealings with Gasim. This is not the firt time Gasim has approached him to be his running mate. this is the first time he has accepted.
Yes he has not graduated for his PhD yet. However he had submitted his thesis quite a while back and I expect him to graduate before the end of this year.
Hmmm. in a few months time Maldives VP will be going on motorcade for his PhD graduation followed by tea and biscuits with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, ha ha that will be a drama to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteps. Vanilla please don't take this personally.
anonymous @ 13:34AM, yeah that would be strange and fun eh? But I am not convinced that Gasim will win this election.
ReplyDeletenot many people have heard about sawad, so I am just filling in on bits of the information gap.
I meant to say anonymous@ 12:56 AM. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteIntroducing Sawad: Abandoning the motherland for 16 yrs, not serving the public with his degrees and not fighting for a change. Browsing the internet & just watching ppl bleed for democracy...amazing!!
ReplyDeleteShow me his public service to the people. Where is it? Why go and get employed in India and elsewhere?? Personal gains?
Remember one thing...you haven't bled for us and you haven't served for our best interests...EVER!! So don't expect us to hand u vice-presidency of the country you abandoned.
Go back to your fucking lap-top browsing and little research articles. And for gods sake stop speaking in Dhivehi...its a disgrace to our language.
ok guys, give the guy a break, let him perform first
ReplyDeleteVanilla, how much did Gasim pay you to promote your buddy Sawad. Did Sawad promise you a ministerial portiforlio if he wins. No matter what you say about him we Maldivians will not be convinced that he is genuine. He has a track record of being selfish and working for personal gains. He has not shown an ounce of evidence that he can serve our country. So stop wasting your time and stay back in your aussie land.
ReplyDeleteSorry to dissapoint you. I dont receive anything from anyone to promote him. I grew up with him. So I really do know quite a bit about him. Its only natural to object to lies about him. How long have you known him?
ReplyDeleteI doubt that Mr. Sawad grew up with someone called Vanilla
